About Us

Founded in 2020, the Jiuqiu Children Program is a non-profit program that aims at helping the students in the Jiuqiu Hmong Village in Guizhou, China. Our team consists of high-school students, parents, and teachers. Our goal is to share the stories of children in one of the most remote villages in China, and to raise awareness, to raise funds, to donate, to help. Teachers in our team also bring musical and literary courses to the Jiuqiu Hmong Village. We hope that students in Jiuqiu can be provided with more possibilities and chances.

While helping the children of Jiuqiu, we hope that the diverse Hmong culture of Guizhou will be better known. On this website, you can see the Hmong handicrafts that we bring in the "Shops" section, including Hmong silver, embroidery, batik, etc., some of which are hand-made by intangible cultural inheritors. These handicrafts are the treasures of human civilization in terms of culture and art. We hope to raise funds for Jiuqiu through the Hmong Craft Shop, forming a virtuous circle to help seedlings sprout and help promote and preserve cultural heritage.

Hello! I am Huang Chengzhou from Shang Foreign Language School and I am the initiator of the Jiuqiu Children Program. (I just got out of the river in the picture on the left. It was a nice swim with the kids in Jiuqiu except that I was pushed down by them:)) On this website, you can read the stories of the children and teachers that our team brought from deep in the mountains of Guizhou. We hope that these stories will touch you and that the Hmong children in Jiuqiu Village will realize their colorful dreams and get to know a wider world.
Guizhou is my hometown. It is also one of the most diverse provinces in China. I am fascinated by the minority cultures here, and I hope that the beautiful crafts and legends of the Hmong people will be better known. If you are like me and want to help the children here in the mountains and are fascinated by the culture of the ethnic minorities, join us! Your donation will be the motivation for the children in Jiuqiu on their way to their dreams.

"I don't think our children are in any way inferior compared to those outside of the mountains; they are very smart, but they need more resources and opportunities."

Twenty years ago, when Jiuqiu Village was not yet accessible by car, Mr. Wang, along with other teachers in the school, used to carry textbooks for the students in the village, starting from before dawn and walking over the mountains until dark. Today, twenty years later, all the young adults in the village are Mr. Wang's students, and Mr. Wang is still the principal of Jiuqiu Elementary School, doing his best to help the children in the village to go beyond the mountains.

In 2019, the highway to Jiuqiu Village was basically completed. Along with the improved road came a more convenient life and more opportunities, and the school continued to receive many grants for facilities, but Wang believes that the most important thing at the moment is to change the mindset of parents in the Hmong village. There are times when the village has a banquet or an event, and parents will take their children directly out of school and go forward to attend. Mr. Wang believes that raising the village's attention to education is a very important step. He is very eager to tell the story of Jiuqiu village, hoping that more people can know about this place and can help the children here to go further.
